ALABAMA WORKPLACE SAFETY AWARDS

PURPOSE

Good safety practices protect the earning power of the State's workforce and result in reduced operating costs for employers.

Alabama's Workplace Safety Awards Program recognizes those employers who, together with their employees, exemplify a high level of safety consciousness in their every day operations.

The awards are based on a demonstrated safety record.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Any Alabama employer in the private or public sector that has gone without an employee lost-time injury for 12 or 24 consecutive months is eligible for a Workplace Safety Award. Subsidiaries, franchises, division, branches or other organizational units that keep individual safety records can be considered for an award.

 

AWARD CATEGORIES

An “ Award of Excellence” will be presented to any employer that has experienced no lost-time injuries for a period of 12 or more consecutive months.

An “ Award of Superior Achievement” will be presented to any employer that has experienced no lost-time injuries for a period of 24 or more consecutive months.

 

REQUIREMENTS

To receive an award:

Documentation must be obtained from the employer's OSHA Log and/or Insurance Carrier attesting that no lost-time injuries have been experienced for a period of 12 or 24 months. A copy of this document must be included with a letter requesting the award for an employer.

The letter must certify that a written occupational safety and health program has been established and is being implemented.

 

PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING

Request for awards, together with all necessary documentation, should be mailed to:

Request for any award must be received no later than 45 days following the proposed award period, and are subject to verification by the Workers' Compensation Division. Employers may apply as often as award qualifications are met.
