The Alabama Department of Labor is committed to preserving the integrity of the Unemployment Trust Fund. Our department conducts many types of fraud and abuse investigations throughout the year on unemployment claims to ensure the accuracy of benefit payments and that workers are accurately reported.

Report That You Suspect Someone Has Used Your Social Security Number to Work or Claim UI Benefits
(THIS INCLUDES THOSE WHO RECEIVED A 1099-G BUT DID NOT RECEIVE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS)
What should I do if I'm a victim of identity theft?
File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) online at

or call
877-ID-THEFT
. In addition, the FTC recommends that you:
Check any accounts that were opened without your permission, and close the accounts that you know or believe have been tampered with or opened fraudulently.
File a police report. Get a copy of the report to submit to your creditors and others that may require proof of the crime.
Request your free credit reports via

and review them for other fraudulent activities.
Place a fraud alert on your credit reports and review your credit reports periodically to ensure no new fraudulent activity has occurred. Place the alert via

Log steps taken to address the situation. Include numbers called, names of people you talked to, dates of calls, emails, and mailings. Keep copies of all correspondence, affidavits, and reports.

Report Suspected Unemployment (UI) Benefit Fraud & Abuse
(e.g. Individuals receiving UI and: not reporting earnings, not searching for work, currently incarcerated, not able to look for or accept work, or self-employed)
(THIS INCLUDES IF YOU RECEIVED A REQUEST FOR SEPARATION FOR SOMEONE WHO IS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED OR HAS NEVER BEEN EMPLOYED WITH YOUR COMPANY OR THE COMPANY YOU REPRESENT)
Report That You Suspect an Employee or Employees of Receiving UI after returning to work, or of receiving PPP funds that may impact the individual’s eligibility for UI benefits.
(PPP refers to the Paycheck Protection Program authorization by the CARES Act)
