Alabama’s Percentage of Unemployment Payments Issued in 21 Days or Less Highest in Nation
MONTGOMERY – Alabama issued unemployment compensation payments in 21 days or less for more than 92% of claims in July, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor.
This figure represents the highest rate of first payments in the nation for that month.
First payments refer to payments made to claimants who were determined eligible for benefits and received a payment. It does not include claimants who have issues on their claim that need to be adjudicated.
“Since the pandemic began, the staff at ADOL have been working extremely diligently to process claims and get payments to those who need them the most,” said Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington. “While this process hasn’t always been smooth, the fact that our agency was able to quickly disperse so many payments is something I’m proud of.”
The chart below shows the percentage of first payments by state for July 2020, the most recent data available.
